Amendment to TRGS 529

The Technical Rules for Hazardous Substances (TRGS) with the number 529, Activities in the Production of Biogas, were amended in May 2024 by the Committee for Hazardous Substances. Numerous changes have come into force for biogas plants that must be observed. There are changes to the use of additives and auxiliary substances in particular. For example, hazardous substances of categories 1 to 3, H300 and H301, must only be dosed in closed systems. Only products of hazardous substance classification 4, H302 “Harmful”, marked with the symbol “!” Attention, may be dosed outside a closed system. Bagged goods and powder dosages are not recognized as closed systems.

Biopract dealt with this topic at an early stage and can provide you with the most important information specific to your system. In particular, we have always focused on liquid products that can be dosed easily and safely with dosing pumps. We offer our customers metering pumps from the renowned company ProMinent.

Our highly effective liquid trace element preparations V Trace L9 and W6 have long met the high requirements of TRGS 529. The cobalt and nickel compounds, as well as other trace nutrients, are complexed with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in the V Trace products. As a result, our V Trace products carry the hazardous substance classification “!” Attention and are exempt from the strict requirements. EDTA complexed elements are harmless to the human organism (proven by a study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine*) and are highly available in the biogas plant. This means that even small quantities of V Trace are sufficient to cover the needs of the microorganisms and guarantee an optimum biogas yield.

Our enzyme products are also formulated in liquid form and can be dosed in a closed system.

If required, we will be happy to support you in drawing up your individual operating instructions and risk assessment for the use of our products.
