Biogas Innovation Congress goes digital this time

Once a year, Osnabrück becomes the meeting place for leading developers and researchers in the biogas industry as well as for plant operators and investors. However, the 13th congress had to be held digitally this year due to the coronavirus. From the 24. to November 25 the focus was on the current legal framework and the economic prospects of plant operators. These have deteriorated noticeably in the past, meaning that the 2020 congress focused in particular on innovations in theory and practice for optimizing existing systems.

The substrate mix in the system plays an important role here. Because more manure and less maize means a higher yield. Provided that the side effects – e.g. the formation of floating layers – are successfully prevented. BIOPRACT has developed a range of enzymatic solutions to optimize biogas plants and prevent problems in the fermentation process. During the congress, Dr. rer. nat. Angelika Hanreich (R&D Manager at BIOPRACT) presented one of them as part of the topic “Fermentation process and technology”. Her presentation focused on the “Development of an innovative additive to prevent floating layers when using straw in biogas plants”. She explained how the enzymes work in the biogas plant and the advantages for the operator. The focus was on the new enzyme product UltraSweep® from BIOPRACT, whose innovative combination of different active ingredients has already been registered for patent.
